Specialized Writing Support

Informed by my own educational history, and through my work experiences as a graduate English instructor and a grade 4-12 writing instructor, I am confident every student—regardless of abilities or interests—can find application, outlet, and/or appreciation for writing.

While I “taught” writing to my grade school friends or as a camp counselor, I began working as a writing instructor in a post-COVID-19 education system. First as a part-time instructor for middle and high school students in Northern Colorado, and later as an English instructor for the University of Washington’s English Department and Youth & Teens Program.

I’ve seen firsthand over the years how the transition out of remote school and the distraction of technology impacted students’ ability to focus, retain, and apply their academic interests. This can certainly make writing long-form, detail-oriented, and accurate essays for school assignments or college applications overwhelming.

Here’s how I can help:

Personalized Writing Coaching

I can help anyone of any age, major, occupation (or lack of occupation), and/or learning ability improve their confidence in writing.

I can provide feedback or coaching in many writing genres…

  • Professional Writing: Cover letters, blogging (for businesses), emails, resumes, and other forms of written communications
  • Personal Writing: Interpret this as you will.

All writing shared would be completely confidentialit would not be shared or discussed with anyone without your permission.

Working together would mean your writing process with me will involve:

  • Personalized written feedback — My written feedback, personalized for your goals and purposes, delivered in a timely fashion.
  • 1-1 conferences — We can review comments on my feedback, questions, and concerns you may have, or walk through the writing process together. Conferences can be planned as needed (weekly, monthly, occasionally) and are likely to take place over Google Meet.
  • Suggestions for publications I can recommend literary, academic, or topic-specific magazines to submit your work to, and provide support through the submission process.
  • Other routines, practices, or collaboration styles at your suggestion in other words: I’d like to try any method or step to make the writing process fun, productive, and special for you.
    • Examples of these suggestions include:
      • Creating a “reading list”
      • Scheduling writing prompts/exercises
      • Learning a new craft (such as new poetic forms)
